The awards were given in recognition of Cambridgeshire County Council youth work activities. The winning applications were short listed by young people in different groups across Cambridgeshire and a central group of young people decided the overall winners in each category. Their judgements were based on the best application that met the description under each of the categories. Tony Orgee, Chairman of the County Council, presented the awards to the winners.

The awards ceremony, held at Hinchingbrooke Performing Arts Centre, was organised and run by young people; supported and assisted by youth workers. Bec France, youth worker based in Huntingdon and St Ives, has been working with a group of 15 young people from across the county to organise, support and host the event.

Bec said “This has been a great opportunity for young people from the area to get together and have a really positive experience of organising a big event. The young people are using their individual strengths and interests, whether that be stage-management, make-up or being a host or MC, to develop and grow. They’ve also had a great chance to meet other young people from outside their own schools and towns.”

The entertainment came from youth projects in Cambridgeshire. Huntingdon was represented by HYC Crew and Cheerleaders, with their track “Oh maybe one day”, written and performed by one of the group and supported by the HYC singers, dancers, cheerleaders and animation. From East Cambs and Fenland, a soloist from the B Club Boys Group performed
