July the 1st was an exciting date for groups of young people in Cambridgeshire as they prepared for a visit by HRH Prince Edward the Earl Of Wessex.
The afternoon saw 12 DofE groups from all over Cambridgeshire converge on Comberton Village College where the event was taking place.
By 3 o’clock the excitement grew as Prince Edward’s helicopter landed on the school field to be greeted by over 200 award participants from Comberton Village College.
Prince Edward was then escorted around a variety of activities which highlighted some of the things young people can do for their DofE Award. Participants demonstrated, Cooking, Conservation, Clinbing, Problem solving, Navigation, Cycle maintenance, Computing, Photograpy, Canoeing, Fencing, 1st Aid, Babysitting as well as various activities from the Skills section.
Finally members of the Comberton Village College DofE group gave an audio visual presentation about their Gold expedition in Switzerland during the summer of 2007.
The event finished with a presentation of long service and thank you certificates to a number of Award leaders.
Everyone agreed that the visit was a big success and something they would remember for the rest of their lives.
