Being asked to send a sexy image to a partner
Illustration: Heather Holt - Cambridge Regional College
You have been sending sexy text messages to your partner for a while and you get a message saying could you send a sexy photo as a happy reminder of the last time you were together.
What do you do next?
- Send a photo because you know you can trust your partner
- Flatly refuse because it’s not something you want to do
- Ask your partner to send one first
Read on to find out which of these options you should or shouldn’t take…….
Send a photo because you know you can trust your partner
Can you trust your partner? Nobody likes to think badly about their partner but it’s easy to get wrapped up in the romance of a relationship and think you know someone better than you really do! Even if you have been with someone for a couple of years you can’t be absolutely sure about them and you would need to think about them having this sort of image of you if you split up. If your partner loves you that much why wouldn’t a less risky photo of you be a happier reminder?
Flatly refuse because it’s not something you want to do.
This is definitely the best option for all the reasons stated above especially if it’s not something you feel comfortable doing – Never give way to pressure to do something you don’t want to.
Ask your partner to send one first
Not a good option – what would be your reason for doing this? To test out your partner or are you hoping he/she won’t? Either way it has a lot of potential to backfire on you and could result in you feeling even more pressurized to do something you don’t want to do.
Remember: Once you do something like this you can never take it back and things in cyberspace have a habit of going viral before you can do anything to stop it.
Is it legal? If you are under 18 and send an explicit image to someone else he/she will be illegally in possession of a picture which is a criminal offence under Child Pornography laws. He/she could face prosecution, a criminal record, and being placed on the sex offenders’ register. If your partner did pass it on to someone else he/she would also be guilty of distributing child pornography which would be an additional offence.
Taking all these things into account is it really worth it?
