Take Control :Self-assertiveness for victims and bullies

Practising some basic self-assertiveness skills can help you feel better about yourself.

Making requests:

  • Be clear about what you want
  • Plan ahead and practise
  • Make your request short and precise e.g. 'that is my pencil and I want It back'
  • Decide what you want to say and stick to it - don't be rude but don't get side-tracked.

Saying No:

  • When you say NO, say it firmly
  • Try not to get caught up in arguments, don't become angry or upset if you don't get your own way
  • If you don't want to do something, don't give in to pressure. Be firm.
  • Don't make excuses - keep your body posture assertive and look the person In the eye.
