“I look good. I mean really good. Hey everyone... come and see how good I look.”! This film is brilliant and I can’t put it in any clearer terms. This film put Will Ferrell on the map as one of films ‘guaranteed a laugh’ actors. He is not alone however, and this film is supported by other fine performances, most notably 40 Year Old Virgin actor Steve Carrell.
The film follows the Channel Four news team throughout their escapades as the hardworking, hard drinking, party news team of the 70’s. It’s centred mainly on the relationship of Ron Burgundy (Ferrell) and new up and coming anchorwoman Veronica Corningstone (Applegate). Although feared by the members of the news team, Burgundy is drawn to her and pulls out lines such as “I wanna be on you” to win her over.
This film is littered with great cameos from Jack Black, Vince Vaughan and Ben Stiller to name but a few, and packed to the rafters with classically repeatable one liners. Unlike some comedies where you feel the 90 minutes is just about enough this one will have you searching the DVD for as many extra features as you can find.
I cannot recommend this film any higher, and it’s even made me doubt myself at putting it so low on m Top 10. Perhaps it has yet to stand the test of time, give me a few more viewings of it and it may have crept up the ladder. Nevertheless, if comedy is your thing, then watch this film…“you stay classy San Diego”.
Best Bit: When Ron encounters Jack Black as an angry biker after throwing a burrito in his face.
Rating: 5 out of 5, the best showing of Will Ferrell yet, its impossible to laugh during this film.
