Superman Returns, Godfather 3, Terminator 3, Spiderman 3. If you haven’t guessed the link between these three movies then here it is; none of them should ever have been made! If you look back in film history it tends to throw up some real clangers when it comes to trilogies, and this latest effort will go down as one of the worst.

Only 24 hours have passed since I went and watched this and trying to recall how the first half of it went is already proving difficult it was that forgettable, I will also have you know that I watched it on my own so the film even had my full undivided attention!

We pick up with Spiderman (Maguire) basking in his new iconic status and the love of his life MJ, played by the frightfully grating Kirsten Dunst, struggling to make it on Broadway. Harry Osborn (Franco) is seeking to avenge his fathers’ death. Sandman is created when escaped convict Flint Marko (Haden Church) falls into a particle accelerator. Finally some black ooze falls to earth, which wants to bond with Spiderman, which at worst makes Spiderman slightly naughty, he breaks someone’s camera for example! The ooze then moves on form Spiderman to rival photographer Eddie Brock Jr (Grace) who then turns into Venom.

The over influx of bad guys creates a web of confusion where quite simply just one would of done. Bad guys seem to die only to come back later in the film with a pathetic excuse of a scar. Some bad guys even discover a soft side in themselves and become good guys. Venom, who had the potential to be a great villain, appears for the last twenty minutes!!!

The film doesn’t give itself a great start with the poor effort of miming performed by Dunst. Also Tobey Maguire looks like he’s about to burst into laughing in every serious scene and I did laugh when his darker image made him to look like the lead singer of Good Charlotte! This film is so disappointing in pretty much every single department that even the special effects don’t have the ability to inspire as you’ve seen it all before in Spiderman 1 & 2.

Best Bit: Beside the end credits, the scenes with the Sandman in are pretty spectacular.

Rating: 1 out of 5, spare yourself the time and the money and go and watch Countdown because this is nowhere near good enough.
