Transport, portrayal in the media, youth provisions - these are issues Youth Parliament tackled last week when they met County Councillors at Shire Hall, Cambridge.
Sam Wood, Lewis Punter, Lizzy Timms, Charlie Kivlin, Josh Oddi & Kayleigh Bamford gave presentations and answered questions from The County Council's Children & Young People's Scrutiny Group.
Councillor John Batchelor, Chairman of the Children and Young People’s Scrutiny Committee said: “I was deeply impressed by the commitment and strength of feeling shown by the young people today. They raised very real issues and brought a lucidity and vision which typifies the young people of Cambridgeshire today. Their contributions were extremely valuable, and showed how important it is for the voice of young people to be heard. It is now our task to do all in our power to address their concerns.”
The right for Young people to be able to voice their views is not something that is just being recognised locally either - 2 weeks ago, UK Youth Parliament made history by debating Young Peoples issues In the House of Lords. This is the first time this has happened and reflects how young people are now being 'given a platform to share their views'.
