Applying in the Cambridge Area

The Cambridge Area 14 - 19 Partnership runs a formal application system for people who live in this area, or people wanting to apply to schools and colleges here. Where there are more applicants than places, preference is given to students from the Cambridge area.

How do I apply?
There is one application form that covers all the post-16 centres in the Cambridge area. You can get an application form from your careers co-ordinator or from the admissions contact at your first choice centre.

Some schools are taking part in a pilot of an online application system. Students at these schools will make their application through Cambs Coursefinder.   If you are applying in this way, your school or college will ensure you have all the information you need.

Go along to open days/evenings to find out more about the courses and centres.

Once you have decided, complete your application. Make sure you and your parents/carers sign it, before you hand it back to your school / college careers co-ordinator. They will then send your application to your first choice centre.

Is there a deadline?
The closing date for applications is usually in the middle of February but your school/college is likely to want applications in earlier so that references can be completed.

What happens next?
You will probably be asked to go for an interview.

What happens if I don't get accepted?
If you have applied to more than one post-16 centre, you will be considered for all your choices. If you are unsuccessful, you can apply for alternative options. You can talk to your careers co-ordinator or tutor about your options and other choices.

When will I know if I've been accepted?
You will normally receive an offer of a place in the summer term. The offer may be conditional on you achieving certain grades in your GCSEs or other exams.

What if I change my mind?
Ideas do change and some people will want to change their course choices. Talk to your careers co-ordinator or form tutor; they will advise you.

What if I don't make the conditions of my offer?
Contact your post-16 centre immediately; they will help and advise you.
