When thinking about your future career you need to:

  • Find out about the jobs available
  • Know what qualifications are required
  • Plan how best to get the job you want

Getting the career you want

  • Try and get the best possible qualifications and training you can
  • Do relevant work experience
  • Have a good school attendance and punctuality record
  • As well as qualifications, employers are looking for people with what are called employability skills

Employability skills – employers want people who can:

  • Read, write and use numbers – nearly every jobs involves English and maths
  • Work in a team – as well as by themselves
  • Solve problems
  • Use IT
  • Explain what they mean and ask for help when they need it

Your Guidance Adviser can help you as you make plans for your future. There will be a Guidance Adviser at your school or college regularly. Ask your form tutor or Careers Co-ordinator how to get in touch and make an appointment.
