Disability Living Allowance
This is paid to anyone who needs help to look after themselves (care) or help to get around (mobility). It is paid whatever your situation; whether you are working, at school or college or not able to work. Depending on your circumstances you may get both or only one of the elements.
There are lots of forms to fill in to make a claim for this benefit so ask for help if you need it.
Employment and Support Allowance
Employment and Support Allowance has replaced Incapacity Benefit for new claimants. If you have an illness or disability and are not working you can claim Employment and Support Allowance. After an initial assessment you will be placed in either:
- work-related activity group where you will be given support and help to find employment
- support group - if your illness or disability will prevent you from working
Housing benefit
If you have to pay for rent or lodgings you may be able to make a claim for housing benefit. This is to help those on low incomes or benefits to pay their housing costs.

Council tax benefit
If you have to pay council tax and are on a low income or benefits you can claim for council tax benefit. You do not have to be receiving any other benefits to make a claim for this.

If you need adaptations to your workplace to enable you to cope with work you may be able to get help from your adviser at Jobcentre Plus.
