The Global Youth Action Project (GYA) is an innovative project seeking to empower young people aged 13-18 to take action on global issues. This starts from the young people's own experience and the action is developed by the young people and led by them.
The Global Youth Action Project (see www.globalyouthaction.org.uk/) is hosted by five Development Education Centres (DECs) across the country. In Cambridgeshire it is hosted by the Harambee Centre for Development and Environment Education.
A Global Bite is a bite sized taster session on a specific global issue, for example the arms trade, climate change etc. Or they can be general discussion about topics such as what is a global issue? How does this link to my own personal experience?
Other benefits for the young people of taking part in Global Youth Action include training, including youth worker training and peer education training. Support is also available in the form of workshops, events, resources and facilitation.
A grant of up to £500 is available to implement a project of their choice which takes up action on a global issue as its focus.
Young people can also attend Global Collective Residentials and the Local Collective, a regular group which meets at the Arbury Community Centre 7-9pm every Monday.
