This year the County celebration of young people's achievements will be hosted by the Ramsey Sawtry Yaxley team and will take place at the Chaos Youth Centre next to Abbey College in Ramsey on the Friday 4th March 2011.

Every year Cambridgeshire young people organise an event to celebrate the achievements of young people through youth work.  There are a range of awards given in recognition of youth work activities across the County. Previous events include The Big Event at Comberton 2010, The Young Peoples Oskar Awards Littleport 2009,  Huntingdon Pump It Up 2008, County Event Parkside Cambridge 2007, Celebrate One Vi5on The Junction 2006.

This year there are 14 award categories which will be awarded on Friday March 4th at the Ramsey Chaos Youth Centre.

The title of this year’s event is “Don’t Waste Your Talent” and the organising team are hoping to use it raise awareness of recycling.

Here is a report of the team’s progress so far:

A group of 10 young people have come together to plan THE EVENT. We are hosting this years Cambridgeshire award ceremony at Ramsey Chaos Youth centre. All the young people are working on their Silver Arts Award which is a nationally recognised qualification for young people in the arts. The team has split into two groups, the technical team and the creative team. They have produced a list of all the jobs that will be needed to plan and run the event; they will be learning about and be responsible for the layout of the event, the lighting and sound design and operation, the trophies design, creating a logo and posters to promote the event, photography, budgets, auditioning to get performers on the night, and hosting the event on the night.

“So far we have decided on a theme of recycle, reuse for the event and have thought about the budget and what jobs we will all be doing. We have also though about what part we will need help from artists like sound production and some design help.

We have met with a graphic designer who has helped us start some designs for posters and a logo that looks really professional.
We have also contacted Nathan at Adec arts who will be helping with some of the technical bits like the sound and equipment we will need.”

You can download a poster for the event by clicking on the download tab at the end of this article.
