The Chase by Amy Gresham

Why did I agree to this?
I should never have left my garden fence.
Still, I'm here now. Let them come.
How long am I supposed to stand here for?
They're here somewhere, I know it.
A rustle in the bushes, I scream and run.
The race is on.
Why, why, why? I'M SO STUPID.
And now they're looking around, will they find me?
They're giving up already; oh no they're having some vodka!
There's a dog beside the bush, stupid mutt!
Get lost! They'll find me! No leave me alone!
Sighing, I look up at the sky. 'If there is a guardian angel
For people like me, now is a time to help'
A bottle smashes behind me. I guess they've run out of booze!
Time to move, get home. Home is safe. Home is a different world to me.
I get up. OW! Pins and needles! A twig cracks under my trainers. No!
I run until my chest is heaving and I'm breathing to save my life.
Home. They can't get me here. Home is everything to me.
The darkness may never enter.
I was stupid, so stupid.
I just wanted to belong.
