The Locality team worked together with both secondary schools, Bottisham Village College and Soham Village College, and the Police to put together an Anti-Bullying Conference Day for 29 students that were chosen from the 2 schools. The challenge given to the students at the start of the day was that they had to imagine they were a media arts company and they had been commissioned to produce 5 pieces of media that could be used across the 2 schools during Anti-Bullying Week 2009.
The day was hosted by Bottisham Village College and involved members of the Locality Team and Police. The day started with some presentations, the first was by the Locality Team around Cyber Bullying, then PC Alison Jones spoke about E-Safety and some of the dangers that face young people online and finally PCSO Maria Green spoke about staying safe when out and about.
After a refreshment break, the students were split into 5 groups; each group had a media that they would be concentrating on. There were 2 groups working on a drama/film production, 2 groups working on posters and 1 group working on a PowerPoint presentation. 3 of these groups were mixed students from both schools. In the afternoon, the group reformed together and shared their experiences and what they had come up with in their workshops and how they were going to take this forward to ensure the media was ready for Anti-Bullying week.
The day was seen as a success, the students worked well together and every one of the 29 students engaged fully in the workshops and put across their input into what they produced, they went away from the day motivated and excited about putting something together that could help to stop bullying in their schools.
