Urban arts competition

Urban arts

Jess, Nathan, Bailey, Charlie, Josh, Chloe and Jamie make up G FORCE.... a group of young people from Gamlingay Youth Club, South Cambridgeshire who are working with Young Lives to design and organise this year’s Urban Arts Competition.

This is a competition with a difference! Each year it is run by a group of young people for young people to offer them the chance to have fun, do something positive, be a part of something creative, make new friends and try something new.

The project is looking for young people aged between 11 to 25 years living in Cambridgeshire to enter the competition.  There will be workshops across Cambridgeshire during the Summer Holidays where young people can improve or learn new skills and an Award & Exhibition Day in
October where prizes will be given to the top three winners in each age groups (11 – 13; 14 – 16; 17 – 20; 21 -25 yrs).

Anyone interested needs to fill out a registration form which can be found on http://www.young-lives.org.uk and post it to the Freepost address at Young Lives between 31st July and 31st August 2010.

To encourage everyone to join in, four styles of art; painting, drawing, graffiti or  photography have been chosen and there are five art themes; Movie Stars, Cartoons Characters, Endangered Animals, Favourite Places or Positive Images of Youth (Youth is Good!).

All artwork needs to be completed and submitted by 30th September 2010.

G Force said” We’re having a lot of fun organising this event for other young people and working together as a team. It has given us the chance to learn new skills and be a part of something positive, which has boosted our confidence. This is why other young people should get involved! We’d like to encourage everyone to join in and have a go, because nothing is impossible and there is something here for everyone. We want to show that being young is good and that not all young people are anti-social”.
