Saturday Charity Shop Manager Vacancy

Are you a 16 to 18 year old student who would like to gain experience whilst studying A Levels/BTEC or equivalent?

This is your opportunity to engage with Huntingdonshire Volunteer Centre’s Charity Shop, Huntingdon Together as a Saturday Manager. This is part of a fundraising initiative to support our volunteer services.

Experience in retail would be helpful, but a willingness to mentor others, an enthusiasm for the task and creative approach are more important qualities. With the right attitude full training will be given to help as this can be a good opportunity as a stepping stone into retail Management.

Job Description

As the Saturday Shop Manager you will be part of a busy, dynamic team. Your list of duties will be varied, ranging from ensuring high levels of service, managing a team of volunteers, and responsible for sound business practices.

Other aspects of the role are to:

  • Open and close the charity shop
  • Reach agreed targets
  • Develop and implement new initiatives to increase revenue
  • Oversee all financial matters on a Saturday
  • Pricing - policies and procedures
  • Deal with customer service issues such as queries and complaints
  • Supervise /recruit/train new volunteers as part of the management team
  • Organise/liaise about training for volunteers who help on a Saturday
  • Oversee the volunteer rotas and holiday cover
  • Oversee shop stock, receive goods and categorise donations
  • Work closely with the eBay element of the business
  • Monitor the Thrifty 50/50 initiative (limited number of high quality goods sold within a set period – donor receives 50% of sale price back)
  • Surplus Share (donated fruit & vegetables –BOGOF /allotments, sold at low prices)

  • The desire to build and sustaining a team
  • Good organisational skills
  • IT literate (Word & Excel)
  • Confident at using the internet
  • Honesty and integrity
  • Good at problem solving
  • Ability to use your initiative, as appropriate
  • Supportive of the aims and objectives of the Volunteer Centre and its work within the community

Training: The training will be on site on the job with a mentor and team of volunteers.

Hours of work including days and times 5.5 hours on a Saturday once or twice a month. Possible holiday cover

Rate of pay: £8.25 per hour
