Minimum wage
Currently (as April 2020) the National Minimum Wage (NMW) is :
If you are under 18 the NMW is £4.55 per hour
If you are aged 18-20 the NMW is £6.45 per hour
If you are aged 21-24 the NMW is £8.20 per hour
If you are aged 25 or over the NMW is £8.72 per hour
Apprentices who are under 19 or in the first year of their apprenticeship should be paid a minimum of £4.15 per hour.
If you are of compulsory school age you are not entitled to the NMW.

The Living Wage
In April 2016 the government introduced a higher minimum wage rate for all staff over 25 years of age inspired by the Living Wage campaign - this is referred to as the national living wage.
For young people between the ages of 21 and 25, the minimum wage rate is statutory (it is the law to pay someone at least this amount).

The Real Living Wage
The Real Living Wage is a voluntary UK wage rate that is paid by over 5,000 UK businesses. The real Living Wage which is higher than the government minimum wage and the National Living Wage. It is usually paid to anyone aged 18 or older.
