About Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships combine practical on the job training with study. You earn a wage, get holiday pay and gain valuable experience actually doing a job!

Who can become an apprentice?

  • Anyone aged 16+ - there is no upper age limit.
  • You cannot be in full-time education.
  • You must be living in England.

What will I study?

A nationally recognised qualification which will be relevant to your apprenticeship.

For example:

  • An Insurance Administrator might study a Level 3 in Financial services – general Insurance.
  • A Furniture Maker might study a Level 2 in General Furniture Manufacturing and Functional Skills (Englilsh and Maths - if required).

How long does it take to complete an apprenticeship?

Between one and five years to depending on the level of Apprenticeship, the apprentices’ ability and the type of job.

How much does an apprentice get paid?

This depends on your age and can increase once you have completed your first year.

Pay and Conditions for apprentices

You must be paid for your normal working hours plus any training time that is part of your apprenticeship (usually one day per week)

Do apprentices receive holiday pay?

Apprentices get at least 20 days paid holiday per year, plus bank holidays.  The amount you will get will depend on when you start and the number of hours you work.
