Traineeships
Traineeships are designed to prepare students for a future career, by helping them to get ready for the world of work and improving their chances of getting an Apprenticeship or other job.
Traineeships last anything from six weeks to a maximum of six months with the content tailored to individual needs, including:
Work preparation training.
English and maths support (except those students who have gained A*- C) to help give the literacy and numeracy skills needed for the workplace.
Meaningful work experience which provides insight and experience of the world of work and makes students more attractive to potential employers.

What is it all about?
Traineeships are 8 to 10 week programmes, designed to help you prepare for and find work.
The first 4 weeks include:
- City & Guilds level 1 in customer service
- City & Guilds level 1 in business administration
- Improve your English and maths GCSE’s if you need it, using functional skills
- Updating your CV and writing covering letters to suit the job you’re applying for
- Mock Interview help and techniques
- Skills and behaviours employers look for
- Personal and social development.
- Work placement (4-6 weeks), with guaranteed interview and a reference

Traineeships at Cambridge Regional College (CRC)
They run for 9 to 12 weeks
5 days per week 9.30 a.m. until 4.30 p.m. (typically)
Work Placement hours to be arranged by employer and student.
For 16 to 24 year olds who:
- are ready for an Apprenticeship or employment but just need a little extra help
- have the drive and enthusiasm to succeed
Outline of activities
8 weeks unpaid work experience (100 – 240 hours with an employer)
Your traineeship will teach you how to be a ‘star employee’ based on the competencies, skills and values that employers have said they look for in their staff.
You will be trained in...

- Health & Safety
- Maths
- IT Skills
- English
- Communication
- Teamwork
- Professionalism
- Respect at Work
Qualification/certificate available: Level 1 Employability, Maths and English
